Dendrocalamus giganteus
This is the big one – to about 100 feet with 12 inch diameter canes. Jaw dropping.
Though used for things like boat masts it is not really great structural material (if you want very large diameter lumber please see Black Asper and Dendrocalamus Brandesii).
The cooked shoots are creamy & tender and popular with the Vietnamese.
We have two clones – one from the gardens in Bogor Indonesia and another from China.
The Bogor clone is the one that is famous in the U.S. as it is the one viewable at Quail Gardens in San Diego. It is the one that we have available for sale. It is the one viewable in the photo.
